SMART LIVING

It has been observed in the past 3 to 4 years that consumers’ behaviour has shifted from fast paced and repetitive patterns to conscious and prioritized choices.

However, there is still a certain anxiety when it comes to thinking about the future and taking action. Baby Boomers and Generation X have shown a slower adaptation to the implementation of change, whilst younger groups of people, such as Millennials, Generation Z and Alphas have been proved to show more determination and flexibility in their workplace, behaviour and social interests.

Smart living is about incorporating technology in our new habits but still prioritizing communication and adding value to the raw materials which can already be found around us.

Re-Cast embraces the re-use of natural materials and reinterprets futuristic wearables not only in a less utopian manner, but from a more holistic perspective. Cool shades of greys, light steel, bronze, blue hues and technological sapphire are some of the key colours of 2025. We will notice raw finishes, cubical shapes, massive yet minimalistic jewelry, easy-to-navigate aesthetics and organic cut-outs.

Research shows that auxiliary solutions are represented by mobility and a more inclusive approach towards disability. 3d printed solutions are a good start for durability, versatility and less invasive results. This new shift is about finding balance in working for a better future while living in the present moment in order to make the necessary changes.

As Kevin Kelly (co-founder of WIRED magazine) reflected in The Inevitable (2016) on where humanity is headed to in the following years, our destination is neither utopia nor dystopia nor status quo, but Protopia.

Protopia is explained as a state that is better than today and yesterday, although it might be only a little better.
